Pill Coater: Taking Medication Has Never Been Easier

Montreal, Canada, 2015 – Do you hate the taste of medication? They say ‘a spoon full of sugar helps the medicine go down’, but wouldn’t you rather have a spoonful of chocolate? There’s a simple solution: coat your pills in it! That way, taking them becomes a tasty treat as opposed to a chore.

The problem is that medication that is coated in chocolate can easily be mistaken for candy, which can be dangerous. Chocolate also oxidizes when exposed to air, and it’s hardly practical to keep a full-size bowl of molten chocolate to hand to dip pills in whilst travelling. A new innovation is in the works that seeks to rectify these problems. Known as the Pill Coater, it’s comprised of a chamber for melting chocolate into, a mesh to place the pills on whilst the chocolate is melted over them, a secure pill container, and a storage compartment for the chocolate.

The Pill Coater is the brainchild of Montreal-based mother Dully Katzeff, who was inspired to design it after seeing her chronically ill son struggling to take his pills. She created the device to make swallowing medication a more enjoyable experience for him. Dully is currently attempting to gain funding for her invention via Kickstarter. Perhaps this marks a new era in which pills will be a delight rather than a pain to swallow.
